Cool Bars in Havana: La Flauta Mágica

Named after Richard Egües, a flute player and soloist in Cuba’s legendary Orquesta Aragón band, who went by the nickname “the magic flute”, this bar is located on the rooftop of a 10-floor building that is right in front of the United States Embassy in Havana. From its terrace, which includes a swimming pool, one has a clear view of the Embassy from above followed by the beautiful seafront Malecon. This bar, which also doubles as a restaurant during the late hours of the afternoon, offers the usual range of cocktails like daiquiri and mojitos. However, they have an extensive rum selection that includes the full Havana Club portfolio, up to the Selección de Maestros, and Santiago’s range up to the 25 year-old reserva. The bar’s jazz nights feature some of Cuba’s most notable musicians, including talents like pianist Harold López-Nussa. Be sure to call and ask for the night’s program–it varies day by day. We recommend going for the jazz night. Amazing venue, nice cocktails and smooth jazz tunes to soothe your cares.
