2015 Havana Cigar Festival: DAY II & III

On the second day of the 2015 Havana Cigar Festival, the press and participating guests had the opportunity to visit some of the top plantations in Vuelta Abajo, recognised by many as the best tobacco region in the world. The day began with a visit to Ivan Maximo Perez’s farm in San Juan y Martinez. Máximo produces both sun- and shade-grown tobacco. His over thirty years of experience, combined with his use of the latest technology, make him one of the very best producers in the region. While in the plantation, guests visited some of the curing barns where freshly picked tobacco was being hung out to be cured.

During the evening, guests attended a dinner hosted at El Laguito to commemorate the 25th anniversary of La Casa del Habano. For the occasion, a handmade artisanal humidor containing 15 Pirámides and 15 Robustos Extra made exclusively from leaves from Vuelta Abajo was presented. The vitolas of the cigars are unique and not included in the portfolio of the brand. Also to mark the anniversary, Max Gutman, owner of Importadora and Exportadora de Puros y Tabacos, who is also the conceptual father of La Casa del Habano, was awarded with a serigraph by well-known Cuban artist Rene Portocarrero as recognition for the incredible job that La Casa del Habano has done for the promotion of Cuban cigars around the world. Numerous musical performers as well as dancers entertained guests throughout the evening.
