Founded in 1962, this is the first art gallery opened after the revolution. Galería Habana is the country’s benchmark fine art gallery. Located in the Miramar area, close to Villa Manuela, another leading art gallery in Havana, it has displayed works by many of country’s most prominent artists, such as Wifredo Lam and René Portocarrero. More recently, Galería Habana has been vigorously introducing works by leading contemporary Cuban expatriate artists such as Tonel, a leading conceptual Cuban artist, Felipe Dulzaides and Roberto Fabelo to the country’s art scene. Its latest exhibition during 2015 Havana Art Biennial is themed “Crash,” a collection of conceptual arts, installations and photographs from Cuban expatriate artists to interpret the different facets of the global financial crisis. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
